Welcome
Hope you find this interesting and useful.
5-Minute Clips & Workshops can be crucible for change;
PART OF THE excuse and means for improving teaching, learning, communications, collaboration
We're at the beginning - again! Still at the beginning!
We can fumble forward together!
Send us suggestions, examples, requests, questions!
Adjust audio volume now.
Follow-up options: More detail, more info available.
5-Minute Clips and 5-Minute Hybrid Workshops cannot and should not include too much detailed information.
Most slides, images should only have a few words and use only a few font styles!
They can and should refer to additional resources and services for those who want more; so all references, links, etc. in a clip or workshop, (including a downloadable printable one-pager) should be available via a single URL - e.g., see the Web page indicated at the top of this slide.
TMI/TMO/TLT = <br />Too Much Info; Too Many Options; <br />Too Little Time
None of us can keep up constantly, instantly, completely, universally .
Especially about our own ability to keep up with rising tide of "opportunities"
Web 2.0 and new versions of hand-held digital devices - smart cell phones, etc. - provide new challenges and the glimmer of hope for dealing more effectively with education, communications, and collaboration
Well, not really 5-minute clips themselves BUT new Web 2.0 style tools make it possible to produce, distribute, , publish, share, modify a variety of Not new: Multimedia files accessible on the Web
New: Tools for making many useful versions or resources from just a few building blocks.
For example: beginning with 1 set of PowerPoint slides (which may contain images, text, etc.), 1 audio recording, and 1 text document
EASY to create and share on the Web: video, audio-narrated self-starting slideshow with visible text notes, podcast, video podcast, blog entry, jointly editable document, automatically updated entry to table of contents for a blog, printable document with pictures of all slides and copies of all text notes,
ACCESSIBILITY versions for those with vision and/or audio disabilities or preferences - especially those who use screen-readers.
AND "subscriptions" - iTunes podcast, RSS feeds, YouTube channel, Feed2JS self-updating Table of Contents
Boundaries eroding between producers, supporters, publishers, users, teachers, learners,
Need to find new limits of appropriate use and behavior,
Need to develop new roles: Who is obliged and able to support the fullest exploration and exploitation of these new opportunities? Control, guide, train, repair, sustain,
Probably no one! Certainly no one working alone!
Acceleration, Proliferation, Dispersion/Accessibility to Individuals.
We have some nice clips from Todd and Ray discussing how their own use of 5-minute workshops began and how their approaches differ, and the ways in which they are finding success at their own institutions. Link available on Web page for this session/event.

Todd: "I started a few years ago on my campus with 5-Minute Workshops' and the response has been wonderful. I have also heard from many others doing the same and the response has been consistently positive. <br /><br />" the idea came from something my grandfather told me years ago about how the circus would come to town and parade down the main street. Then, they set up camp at the outskirts of town. My guess is they would get a lot LESS traffic to their show if they simply set up on the edge of town and hung up a banner that they were there. The town parade is the perfect example of a teaser.'<br /><br />- Email 2/12/2007 from Todd Zakrajsek<br />Director, Faculty Center for Innovative Teaching (FACIT)<br />Central Michigan University zakra1t@cmich.edu

Less Than 5 Minutes: When run without interruption, the pre-recorded elements require less than 5 minutes! <br />
Anyone can learn how to use new tools to produce new "clips" in combination with other media, files.
Embed Clip with other resources and find better fits for teachers and learners including those with disabilities - severe, minor
